First Christmas Day weeknote. Happy Christmas! 🎄
I’ve had a bit of prosecco so you’ll get what you get.
-
I thought I’d have the time and energy to stream this week but I was wrong. My YouTube channel still crept past 200 subscribers so maybe not posting anything is the secret to success.
-
The one thing I’d been missing since I upgraded to Ruby 3.2 was a way to update the attributes of a
Data
instance. In a last-minute festive miracle,Data#with
was added just in time for the final release today, so I got what I wanted. 🎉(It only now occurs to me that
Data#with
should take a block likeHash#merge
does, but one shouldn’t look a gift reindeer in the mouth.) -
On Tuesday I rode to Camden and met a radiant Aleks for coffee & cake. Afterwards I tried to buy some emergency gifts in Camden Lock Market and it was a mistake because I’m not a tourist.
-
On Wednesday I walked to Covent Garden for a pre-Christmas beer and dosa with my brother. The office parties were in full swing and that sometimes made it hard to talk or think, but it wasn’t as horrendously busy as I‘d feared. Central London is pretty magical at this time of year.
-
I got an automated email which said my Christmas rental car had been cancelled, but after 45 minutes of anxiously waiting on hold I was told it hadn’t been cancelled. Stressful. Cool story.
-
I watched The Bear, which has narrowly (in my timeline) snatched best show of 2022 from Andor. Amazingly shot, amazingly performed, just perfect.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach must have a good agent.

A busy and logistically complex week, but now I’ve got my feet up.
-
Probably too late for a mince pie now.

This is what you get.
