Weeknotes 196
Unclear reasons
-
Hello from the waning days of a habitable planet. It’s 25 degrees outside.
-
I collected my glasses and they’re great. I can read okay without them but it’s way easier with them on, and now I can clearly see pin-sharp text in the evening without having to make the lights brighter. It feels like magic.
In fact it’s a little alarming how much sharper text looks with them on, and when I take them off it’s hard to believe they haven’t somehow made my unaided vision worse, but no, it’s always looked like that. They do distort the world a bit so it’s also a relief to put them away once I’ve finished reading.
-
To celebrate my newfound superpower I spent a pleasant couple of hours yesterday afternoon at the local brewery’s taproom drinking their sour fruit beer and reading a book. A delightful summer activity for October.
-
Wool pages read: 90. There is hope!
-
I played another five minutes of Alan Wake Remastered. I should clarify that I’ve only just reached the cabin on Cauldron Lake so I’ve not really seen any of the game yet. At this homeopathic rate I might finish episode one by Christmas.
-
For unclear reasons I watched another episode of The Morning Show. Unbelievably it had more flashbacks to pandemic-era events. Make it stop! I don’t want to go back! This episode also had the distinction of containing the most ridiculous “arriving home from work” scene of any TV show in history.
-
I tried to watch the first episode of Loki season two but had to turn it off after ten minutes. Given how little I now remember — or indeed ever understood — about the first season, it was so transparently a waste of time that even I couldn’t face sitting through it. From now on I don’t want to see anything set in a multiverse.
-
This week’s spooky-adjacent film was Malignant, which does start out spooky before veering into absurd, schlocky nonsense in its final act. It’s not a good film but I enjoyed the silliness even though I couldn’t tell how much of it was intentional.
-
When I wake up it’s dark, and when I finish work it’s also dark.
-
Now I’m on holiday for a week.
