Weeknotes 269
Sublime pleasures
-
March!
-
The weather was miserable early in the week but it’s given way to a clear, sunny weekend. It’s light outside in the mornings. Spring’s on the way.
-
Three more visits to the gym. I lost about 4kg in February, which isn’t an amazing pace but a good start if I’m able to maintain it for another couple of months.
-
Looks like I made it two months without alcohol. It hasn’t required any real effort or willpower so it still feels accidental.
Single malt whisky and good beer are sublime pleasures so I’m confident I don’t want to permanently deprive myself of the occasional drink. I think I’ll preserve the streak for now because not drinking feels psychologically compatible with being more healthy in general, even though it’s not like my previous average of a drink every week or two would have a practical impact.
-
On Friday I met Aleks & Reema for dinner at Studio Gauthier. The overpriced food was alright but the room & service had an anxious, austere vibe which made it hard to relax (when sober?). It was great to see Aleks while she’s briefly back in town but I don’t think I’d go back to the restaurant.
-
The Club Mexicana Shoreditch reveal was: they’re moving to Queen of Hoxton. I can’t tell whether that’s good or bad news. It’s a bit closer to where I live but I’m going to miss the Spitalfields location. Overall I suppose I’m glad it’s not disappearing entirely. The entitled huff will have to wait.
-
A beautiful episode of Severance this week, with a far more interesting and character-driven focus than the weaker, lore-centric parts of the season. What a show. Even more mysteries, though; three episodes left to tie some of them up.
-
I finished rewatching the first season of Twin Peaks. The dread for season two’s secondary storylines starts here.
-
Children of Time is good! Those ███ are really giving the ███ a run for their ██████!
-
I am somewhat grudgingly finding myself drawn into Life is Strange: Double Exposure as I approach the end of the story. It’s taken its time but the Arcadia Bay atmosphere finally set in. I’m now a bit more keen to move on to Lost Records: Bloom & Rage once I’ve finished.
-
I’ve booked some time off work at the end of the month so I can use up my rolled-over holiday before it expires. I’m already looking forward to some unplanned freedom in the sunshine.
