Weeknotes 278
Main constraint
-
It’s been a beautiful spring week, reaching 28 °C on Thursday. The fair-weather cyclists are already out in force on my commute.
-
I made it to the gym every weekday and I’m pleased about that. In the interests of balance I’m enjoying a sunny, breezy weekend of doing nothing.
-
I’m sleeping properly again. Phew.
-
I’m asymptotically approaching the end of Children of Ruin. Half an hour left. I often chose silence this week.
-
I watched the first four episodes of Andor’s second and final season. So far it’s pretty good. I don’t remember any of the details from the first season, much less Rogue One, but that doesn’t seem to matter much. It certainly looks and sounds fantastic, and continues to feel like a proper grown-up show which only incidentally happens to be set in a silly space magic universe.
-
I’m still loving The Last of Us, and it seems to be going down well elsewhere too — the latest episode got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I’m belatedly realising the pace of this season: we’re almost halfway through and have only just reached ███. It’s starting to feel like there’s only enough time to get to the end of ██ ██ at most, which would leave all of ██ ██ and ███ ███ for the next season. Or maybe the structure will be completely different! I’m curious to see how they divide it up.

I really enjoyed Cracking The Cryptic’s four-hour solve of Dueling Dragons. The puzzle’s an ideal combination of geometric concerns (connectivity) and a rule which cleverly hides the main constraint (████ ███ ███), making for a satisfying meta-puzzle of trying to work out how it’s possible to make any progress at all.
I could never have solved this on my own, so it was a pleasure to be able to watch someone else do it instead.

Another bank holiday tomorrow, so soon after the sanctuary of Easter. I love May.
