Weeknotes 287
Simply hope
-
At the start of the week it became hard to sleep for several nights in a row when it got way too warm for comfort. I came close to busting out the aircon on Tuesday night so I could get some badly-needed rest, but if there’s one thing I know how to do it’s make my life more difficult for no reason, so I resisted the temptation and sweated in the dark, listening to ambulances in the distance.
By Wednesday the temperature went back to normal and I could relax. Right now it’s wazzing it down.
-
Three gym trips. Standard.
-
Last Sunday I went for brunch at Dauns (good food, surly service) and a citrus pistachio swirl from Okja (tasty). I do actually quite like going out for meals at the weekend so maybe I should lean into that more.
-
Yesterday I went to Battersea again for the Pride celebration. It had a more sociable vibe this year because several of my teammates showed up and I spent most of the time chatting to them rather than watching the entertainment. Fun times.
I had… let’s just say more than one amazing vegan ice cream from Happy Endings.
-
I bought a twelve-pack of alcohol-free beer from Mash Gang and I’m enjoying it as a weekend treat. Could I get used to this?
-
I rewatched In Bruges, which is charming enough to overcome how poorly it’s aged. Well-written and genuinely funny all the way through.
-
Shōgun is so much better the second time around.
-
I’m, like, 75% of the way through Dogs of War, to which I’ll apparently lose my “free” access in a week, so I’d better get a move on. At the moment I intend to continue on to Bear Head as long as the ending doesn’t ruin anything.
-
I appreciate the increasing ubiquity of PinkPantheress’s Illegal because that Dark Train sample sounds every bit as good as it did thirty years ago. Objectively I reckon they gave a better Glastonbury performance than she did.
-
A year ago I was relieved to no longer have the Tories in power. What’s Starmer done in that time? Absolutely nothing good. What a massive wally.
-
I’m worn out but fortunately I’m on holiday next week. I’ll enjoy the break and simply hope nothing silly happens while I’m away.
