Circular progress
-
I love this time of year as it cools down and the nights start drawing in. I’ll be grumpy once it’s dark all the time, but for now: perfect.
-
Last week the roads were rammed and chaotic because of the tube strike, and the increased difficulty of basic manoeuvres made everyone more aggro than usual. This week it seemed to go back to normal.
-
Four trips to the gym. I’m failing to maintain my target weight despite all the exercise. I don’t know why.
-
Yesterday I ate a huge delicious pastry!!! I’d tried the Ole & Steen vegan social a few times before at work but never bought one myself. I happened to be in Covent Garden for some retail chores and a massive dosa at Sagar, so I opportunistically picked up a social directly from the source. I think they’re the best vegan baked good I’ve ever had, and definitely my favourite thing to come out of Denmark.
To be clear, this was a “slice” (£4.25), which is already generously sized. Their menu also offers a “whole” (£20.95), presumably a larger, impossibly tempting, perhaps eldritch version of the same item. Maybe next time. Don’t worry, it’s only 4,227 kcal.

I’m about a third of the way through Bee Speaker. I know this because the Audible app added a mandatory circular progress bar around its watch complication so I can always see what proportion of the current book remains. No thanks, I don’t need the pressure.
-
My wrist still hurts but it’s getting a bit better. The worst part is having to wear my watch on the wrong wrist and then getting momentarily confused every time I need to pay for something or start a workout or, I suppose, find out what time it is.
-
I started watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, thirty years too late. Six episodes in, it’s… okay? The plot so far could be summarised in one sentence which is a disappointment given how much people seem to love it, but it looks and sounds fantastic so I’m sticking with it.
More importantly, it’s got the most sophisticated subtitles I’ve ever seen: appearing inside and behind on-screen objects, translating on-screen text, panning with the content it’s annotating. All very impressive. Maybe anime subtitles are always this good; how would I know?
-
I enjoyed Tom 7’s joyous, surprising, humane video about the Rupert property. (“But get ready to start feeling a little upset.”)
-
It’s funny, albeit deeply unfortunate, to see an old talk doing the rounds yet again. I was particularly happy that it cropped up in Rails Needs New Governance, because it does.
-
Alright, I’d better go, I’ve got a baked potato in the oven.
