Weeknotes 336
Unwise choice
-
Rainy and cool, the sun breaking through. I rode in on Monday despite the rain and got fully drenched. A busy week but nothing to show for it weeknoteswise.

Three gyms. I’m still really enjoying There Is No Antimemetics Division and could happily spend a lot more time in its world but there’s only an hour and a half left. That likely means I’ll be breaking the seal on twenty-seven hours (!) of Redemption Ark next week, which at this pace will take me two and a half months to finish. Hope it’s not shit! Come back in September to find out.

Yesterday I went out for a rejuvenating second breakfast at Blue Brick Café in East Dulwich. Love it there.

Halfway through its first season, I think Star City is legitimately good. The characters are interesting and I’m a little excited about the prospect of there being major Soviet space stuff happening that NASA is completely unaware of. I hope they manage to land it successfully.

Similarly, episode eight of Widow’s Bay was the best yet, expertly blending the different tones of the show into a single coherent piece of story where all the different threads started paying off — properly funny, properly scary, properly emotional, very nicely shot. I’m glad there’ll be another season, acting as a sort of naffness offset for having commissioned more Pluribus.

To my shame I haven’t yet had time to watch the full five-hour solve of Rat Run 40, but what I’ve seen so far has been good. Paths! Primes! Pentominoes! Something for everyone.

I liked this bit from Dave Eggers, which applies equally well to code and prose. “Every adult […] has to be the one saying: do not do this.”

It’s becoming increasingly impractical for me to keep announcing weeknotes on Bluesky. My unwise choice to keep adding posts to the end of a single continuous thread has resulted in one that’s now
5051 messages deep and Bluesky doesn’t support that very well. I’m bloody-minded enough to keep going; we’ll see who rusts first.
