Murky hooch
-
I realise you’re sick of hearing about this, but I’m sick of experiencing it, so take it: I hate the heat. I can’t sleep, I can’t think straight, my brain doesn’t work properly in general. I’m flustered and irritable and short-tempered.
At least I have an office to go to, which I did every day this week. It’s slightly too cold in there but that’s a treat considering the alternative.
-
It’s cooler today. Please let it be over now, at least until next summer, which will be worse, and the one after that, which will be worse still, and so on.
-
Three gyms. Not a good weight week. I can only exert control over one stupid parameter at a time.
-
Super busy this week. Basically just working. The end.
Although it’s exhausting, being busy is actually less stressful than usual because at least I feel like I’m actually helping people and getting things done. What really kills me is the weeks when I feel like all my energy goes into pointless arguments, and this wasn’t one of those.

I was cycling over London Bridge as the eclipse started. There were hundreds of people crowded along the pavement on both sides, staring at it.
Like everyone else, I went outside later during the best bit and tried hard not to look at the sun. It got surprisingly dark in the park.

As a result of the absurd emergency alert announcing a non-emergency situation I’ve now disabled “severe” alerts (which this was) and left only “extreme” alerts enabled on my phone. If the government start abusing “extreme” alerts too then I suppose I’ll turn them off completely? The system works.

Season three of House of the Dragon finished pretty well. It’s definitely a big improvement over the second season. Again, Emma D’Arcy really holds the whole thing together.

In an act of radical optimism I took my sourdough starter out of the fridge today so I can begin bringing it back to life in anticipation of baking-compatible weather. I haven’t fed it for six months so it was looking pretty sad but I just stirred the murky hooch back in and let it slowly warm back up. I reckon it’ll pull through.
