Weeknotes 351
Functional lunch
-
A better week. I gave myself a break from the office by working from home and took Tuesday & Wednesday off entirely. I’ve thus recharged a little bit.
-
Three gyms. The scales aren’t looking good (see below). Whatever.
-
I started Absolution Gap. Of course nothing’s happened yet but fortunately I already know some of the characters’ names so the table-setting isn’t quite as punishing as in the previous two volumes. I’d like for the plot to get up to speed soon but know in my heart that it won’t.
-
Tuesday was unexpectedly, unseasonably warm (😬) so I made the spontaneous decision to get outside and cycle to Tooting to visit Next Door Baker, an old favourite from Maltby Street Market. It took about an hour to get there and the ride was fairly pleasant — 24 °C and sunny, but in a nice way.
It’s such a lovely little place. Karina was kind, welcoming and very happy to have a return customer from the other side of town. I ate a recreational Biscoff twix with my coffee, then an eggless bagel and a brownie for my strictly functional lunch.

Delightful! Recommended!

On Wednesday I slept, did nothing, caught up on some hobbies and had a call with Sandi.
-
On Thursday I rode over to Black Cat and worked from there for a few hours, powered by their excellent pakora burger.
-
On Friday I cycled to Camden for pizza with friends at Purezza. The parmigiana party and pepperoni & agave pizzas were both incredible; the porcini & truffle pizza less so, but still good.
-
On Saturday morning I baked two more loaves and didn’t even take a photo, which is growth of a kind.
-
On Saturday evening I went to Marina’s birthday party where I saw some friends and ate some Yard Sale pizza. The pizza took a while to show up (and perhaps got lost entirely on the first attempt?) but their Mr Lava Lava Vegan is pretty decent.
-
I’ve eaten more pizza this week than in the rest of the year combined. 🍕

I was happy to discover that Heinz’s thixotropic fluids are labelled with both their volume and their weight. Now I know that the ketchup in my fridge (labelled “400ml-460g” in defiance of both mathematics and the International System of Units) has a density of 1.5 g/cm³, whereas the vegan mayo (“775g-800ml” — what?!) is a comparatively slight 0.97 g/cm³.

So close to being done with September.
