Weeknotes 5
Nothing notable
-
Another week of focusing on my physical and mental health. Nothing notable happened. I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to further lower my standards for weeknotes; this is it.
-
A few more tentative work chats, which is nice, but I’m not going to bang on about work here unless something actually interesting happens.
-
I made sourdough again. Despite paying a little more attention to technique I still had the same problem as last time, namely an incredibly gluey dough which resisted shaping and baked into two tasty, crusty cowpats.
It’s possible that the “strong” Co-op white bread flour I’ve been using is, at 11% protein, not strong enough. Next time I’ll try Sainsbury’s flour (13.4%) and see if it makes any difference.
-
I haven’t been able to buy the M&S no chicken kiev anywhere.
I’ve tried 5 shops now. The search continues.
-
We’ve been watching Cheer, which is both compelling and unrelentingly grim. I’ve seen a few people interpret it as uplifting and inspirational but it’s actually a living nightmare so I don’t know why they’ve done that.
-
The first episode of Frankie Boyle’s Tour of Scotland is good and made me laugh.
-
I hadn’t seen One of Everything before, but when the Claire Saffitz episode appeared I watched it and really enjoyed it. It’s a pretty good format so I hope they make a Chris Morocco episode.
-
I’m relieved that Apple is adding the ability to remap modifier keys in iPadOS 13.4. This means I can ditch the awkward technique of bending my left pinkie to press the Control key and go back to hitting Caps Lock as nature intended.
Frustratingly there’s still no way to remap the staggeringly pointless ±/§ key on the British English Smart Keyboard Folio which is exactly where Esc should be, so my Ctrl-[ days are far from over.
What kind of nerd even types the plus–minus or section signs? A different kind.

This week there was no good half.
