Weeknotes 51
Token gesture

I’m having an extremely quiet and relaxing Christmas break. The last-minute tier 4 restrictions don’t allow us to go anywhere or see anyone so I’m trying to make the most of it by watching lots of films, taking lots of naps and eating lots of foods that I wouldn’t normally have the time or inclination to prepare. I didn’t realise how much I needed the downtime.
This means I have even less to write about than usual and the temptation to skip a week was strong, but it felt wrong to miss the final entry of 2020 so here I am with this token gesture.

Making PS5 Remote Play available through the PS4 was such a great product design decision by Sony. It means that when you get a PS5 you can move your PS4 somewhere else and play your games from there too instead of letting it become obsolete.
It’s an ingenious way to breathe new life into something that a lot of your customers already own, and we’re getting a lot of use out of it during this holiday. The latency and video quality is good enough that I can’t tell the difference between playing games locally on the PS5 and playing them from another room via the PS4.

We watched the excellent Soul yesterday. Every aspect of it is impressive but I particularly enjoyed the way it looks: some of the scenes are so beautifully lit or so detailed that I forgot I was watching computer animation.

Community: G.I. Jeff. Okay, season five is better than season four! I’ve not made much progress this week because exercise has been… sporadic. It seems unlikely I’ll get properly back on that horse until 2021 begins.

2021 is about to begin! Although I’ve been fortunate that nothing much worse than time-wasting has happened to me personally, 2020 has still been the shittiest year I’ve ever seen and I’ll be glad to put it behind me. Obviously the world won’t magically get better on the first of January but we’ve all made it this far so let’s give it another go and hope for the best. Well done. See you on the other side. 🎉
