Weeknotes 251
Individual nostalgia
-
Work work work work work work.

I woke up unusually early this morning and lay there in the dark trying to understand why. Am I anxious about something without realising it? am I ill? am I cold? am I hungry? am I late? It wasn’t until after coffee that I remembered the clocks changed overnight.
-
I met Leo & Murray for lunch on Tuesday. We sat on a bench by the grass and ate our Ethiopian food as we chatted, interrupted only occasionally by the ear-splitting clangor of a pneumatic drill nearby.
-
Today I cycled through Finsbury Square, like I often do, and so I thought about Magnetic Scrolls’ 1988 text adventure Corruption, like I do every time I see the Alphabeta Building.
In my head the music always plays as I ride past.
When I was losing myself in the world of Corruption — and Fish, and The Guild of Thieves, and Wonderland — on an Acorn Archimedes in my childhood far away in time and space, it never crossed my tiny mind that I might one day live and work near a building depicted in that game. Funny how things work out.
Yes, it’s a particularly individual nostalgia.

I really enjoyed Connections #500. Roll on #1000.

I gave MaXXXine a second go once the broadband was working properly. It started out well and had lots of fun stylish bits, but it didn’t really hold together and completely ran out of steam by the end. I still liked Mia Goth’s performance a lot; I just wish she’d had more to work with this time.
If you’re going to watch only one film from the X trilogy, I reckon Pearl’s the one to go for.
-
I’m simply trying not to think about the US election because, even more so than people actually in the US, there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Although Denise’s walknotes are always good, I enjoyed this week’s portrait of autumnal London even more than usual.
